“Away With Pedestals”

Put me on a pedestal,
Get your hopes up high,
Think me to be someone
With no problems or flaws,
Without imperfections or kinks,
You can think it if you will
But you’ll just be wasting time.

Just watch me fall and fail
Time and time again,
Watch me disappoint you,
See me fail your expectations,
Watch me make mistakes,
See me bend and bruise and break,
See the hopes you had for me
Fall to pieces as reality sets in.

Here’s the simply truth, friend:
If you put me on a pedestal
I just will not stay on it,
It’ll soon be set on fire,
It will crumble, burn to ash,
I will fail you when you least expect it.

See, I’m not a perfect person,
I’m just a sinner saved by God,
I’m not interested in pretending
To keep you happy with me.
I’m not intersted in playing a part
That you have picked out for me
And want me to play for you.

Just forget the pedestal,
The unrealistic expectations,
I know I’m not perfect
And neither are you.

Let’s just face the facts
Though the truth may hurt:
I make plenty of mistakes,
I sin and struggle with temptation,
Sometimes I win, sometimes I lose,
I’m not as strong as I think I am,
I’m not as wise as I could be,
I do foolish things sometimes,
I need forgiveness and grace,
I still need to learn much I don’t know,
I stumble, fall, fail, trip, and slip not rarely.

Sometimes I don’t do what I should,
Sometimes I can’t feel God’s presence,
Some days I just feel empty inside
Until I seek the living God;
I feel unfed and thirsty within
Until I feed upon God’s Word
And drink the Living Water.

See, I am saved but I still sin,
There are things that fill me with wonder
But I’m most amazed by the living God.
I’m living because He sustains me,
Because He gives me another moment,
Not because I’m good or I deserve it all;
All I have I receive from God’s hand.

Without Him sustaining me I’d be dead,
Without His love I’d be dead in hate,
Without His grace I’ve be condemned to Hell,
Without His mercy I’d be dead long ago.

I’ve seen what others do
When pride rules them;
I’ve felt the pain of their words,
I know the end of their ways.

Don’t put me where you’re not willing to stand,
Don’t build your house on sand, stranger, friend.
Don’t put on a pedestal, I just won’t stand there,
I’m not interested in making you disillusioned with me.

Away with all the pedestals!
Away with unrealistic expectations!
Away with all-too-common prejudice!
Away with habitual hypocrisy!
Away with wrong judging!
Away with the idle, vain and heinous,
The things that consume us slowly,
The things that corrupt our hearts,
The things that are abominable to God,
The things that don’t glorify Him!

We need to look at things realistically,
To see things as they really are
Not simply as we perceive them,
We must adopt God’s perspective of things.

Show patience, show grace,
Overlook the common mistakes,
What’s common to all people,
The failures we all share.
Show love without set conditions.

Look at things with a balanced view,
Don’t let you perception be clouded
By some unrealistic expectations,
Don’t put people on pedestals,
They won’t meet your expectations,
They’ll fail you, what’ll you do then?
If you become disillusioned with them
Who will be at fault? Who’ll be to blame?

Avoid the disappointment
And avoid the heartache,
Save yourself time and energy,
You won’t be disillusioned with people
If you don’t put them on pedestals,
Don’t make idols of people or things,
See yourself and others as all really are
And not as you imagine them to be.

“Against Universalism” Note by me.

“Against Universalism” Note by me.
Universalism contradicts, twists, distorts, misinterprets, misrepresents, and redefines what the Bible teaches.
It teaches lies about the fate of all people, destiny, life after death, contradicting the Word of God and logic.
Universalism is a lie, a heresy, error, false, something that only harms those who believe it’s true.
People who believe it may have good intentions for telling others about it but you know what they say: the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
Universalism is just another wide gate, another broad way that leads to destruction, a saccharine substitute for truth, poison disguised as sweet-tasting nectar.
It may be a popular thing to believe, according to some; it may seem like it’s good to believe it over what the Bible clearly says; it may have a nice ring to it; it may be
an appealing notion, a nice sentiment, but that’s all it can be; it’s not the truth and it’s not what people need.
Don’t fall for the subtle lies; don’t mess with this poison; don’t try to taste it hoping it won’t harm you because it will.
Oppose universalism; fight against it; tolerating it is a waste of time and does no one good, it only allows the lies to spread and grow like a weed, like cancer.
If we don’t reject universalism, then do we really believe or care about what God’s Word actually says?
The time for silence is long over; if we are not against universalism, then we’re for it; there’s no neutrality on this matter, no fence to sit on, no opting out of having an opinion or stand on the matter.
It’s a simple matter of choosing the truth or the lie; the truth of God or the lie of Satan; so, decide and live according to what you’ve decided to believe.

“A Darker View; A Living Hope”

“A Darker View; A Living Hope”

Just look around you,
See what’s happening
So near and so far away
On this planet even now.

Who can say that there’s nothing wrong?
Who’d dare deny there’s death and pain?
Who’d say it’s all meaningless in the end?
Who says there’s nothing left to live for?

Don’t tell me everything’s okay
Because I know that it’s not.
Don’t spout another cliché,
Who’s not sick of them yet?

I’m not here to spread pessimism
But to call to see things realistically,
To stop pretending everything’s all right
Because the bloodshed says otherwise.

We can’t just sing through it,
We can’t outlast it by idleness,
If we’re to live to see another year
God help us or we’re as good as dead.

This is the world as it is
And you still say
We don’t need a Savior,
You just don’t know
How wrong you are.
Do you really believe
The words you’re saying
Or do you just want a way out,
An excuse, a cheap avoidance, evasion,
To keep yourself from accepting
The truth that’s staring all in the face?

Things look quite dark,
The future so uncertain,
Every day could be our last
So what are we living for?
What are we dying for?

There are so many existing
Like life’s a game to play,
Carelessness and recklessness
Rules in the hedonistic hearts,
Love grows cold but lust burns,
Pleasure’s sought at others’ expense,
Godliness and holiness rejected,
Neglected, overlooked, ignored,
Like nothing matters more
Than feeling good right now,
Getting what the flesh wants,
Wanting what desire burns for,
Coveting without stopping;
Selfishness is consuming lives.

Lost souls seek to numb the pain
Without positive results, only failure,
Nothing of the world can fill the void,
It accumulates, pollutes and corrupts
And pretty soon the rot within sickens,
The emptiness remains, the misery grows.

There’s no hope and no salvation
If you’re looking for it in the world,
The world system hostile to all that’s of God,
It can’t save your miserable and lost soul,
Know that it can’t deliver you from Hell
And if you look to yourself for salvation
You’ll be severely disappointed soon enough,
You’ll find out, God help you, you can’t save yourself.

I’m not here to pat heads and spout clichés,
I’m not interested in tickling eager ears,
I’m not interested in scratching itching ears,
I’m not in the business of parroting platitudes,
I’m not here to play pretend that everything’s okay.

Say what you will and think worse if you want
But my mind’s made up, my purpose remains
To shine the light of hope to a dark world,
To always point back to Christ as the only answer.

Christ is the only hope of this dying world,
Christ is the only Savior of sinners,
Christ is the One who died for the ungodly,
He’s the only way to God the Father,
He’s the Way and the Truth and the Life,
He died to set the slaves free,
To change miserable and lost lives,
To renovate hearts, to change them from stone to flesh,
To bring life where there’s death and misery,
He’s the only one worthy of glory, wholehearted commitment,
All other gods can burn in Hell’s flames forevermore,
God knows they will, all false gods will be destroyed!

So look around and see the dark clouds
But don’t fix your eyes on the present
So much that you’re just standing still
Too afraid to do anything else, really.
Look up and see the sun peeking
Through the clouds, it’s a reminder
God’s still in control, it’s not hopeless,
No matter how bad things may get,
No matter how dark things may seem
Fix your eyes on Jesus, healthy or ill
And know that He has overcome the world,
There’s nothing that can ever stop Him,
He will not fail, He will not lose control,
Nothing can separate His chidren from His love.

If you’re still looking within for salvation,
If you’re still looking within for all the answers,
I promise you you’ll fail in your endeavor
Because it’s a futile one, a waste of time,
You can never save yourself, be sure of that,
You won’t find all the answers to your questions
Looking within your finite mind, that’s a guarantee.

You may think the world doesn’t need a Savior
And much less do you think you need one
But you couldn’t be more wrong
And though you may feel so sure now
That my kind and I are the ones wrong
Time will not agree with your belief,
Truth will not die and fade into the past,
You will see in time that you’ve been wrong
If you don’t persist in your proud stand,
If you don’t continue living in denial
Of the truth that corresponds to reality,
I pray to God you’ll believe one day,
Better sooner than later but I don’t decide,
Your life from first to last breath is in God’s hands,
Realize He’s in control; may you never forget it.

“On Music and Truth.” by me.

“On Music and Truth” by me.
Written 2/24/16.

A Suggestion
If you are looking for some music that is lyrically good, with content, with substance, theologically sound, I have a suggestion. It’s a band called Minor, and they released an album this year; the songs can be heard online, fastest way to find them is to go to YouTube, or follow the link I provide here. Give the songs a listen, I hope you shall find something to like, to be inspired by, provoked to thought, to ponder the great theme of salvation through faith in Christ by the grace of God.
While I would personally prefer more vocal variation in an album, it does not make the songs or album worse in any way, for the main thing is the lyrical content, the truth that’s present, the message that is shared with all who will hear the songs or read the lyrics online. At the end of the post is a link to the band’s songs.
Songs With Words(Lyrics)
Speaking of the importance of the lyrical content in any song I do not want anyone reading this to get the idea that I am against instrumental music, songs without words; no, I am not against them, and I’m not saying that since I consider lyrical content/ substance of a song to be the most important part of a song, that means I consider songs without words to be of little or no value to people;
no, I don’t want people to get that idea, what I am saying is that in songs with words/lyrics the part that should be given primary place/focus is words/lyrics, for no matter how good it sounds musically if it’s deficient in lyrical quality or content it is deficient in the most important part, and whatever enjoyment listeners may get from it they’ll not get the benefit of hearing quality lyrics, by which I mean lyrics full of truth; lyrics that conform to theological and biblical standards, virtues, values, etc.; lyrics that aren’t about just making someone feel good about themselves but lyrics that call for action to be taken by the listener; lyrics that provoke the listener to move, to change, instead of remaining complacent or being content with the way things are in one’s life be they so bad or spiritually unhealthy or so-so; lyrics that shift one’s focus from the temporary and fleeting to the eternal and everlasting; lyrics that point one to love, to truth, to Christ, to God.

Instrumental music (songs without words)
In this post I was speaking of songs with words, therefore no implication was made about the worth or usefulness or lack thereof of instrumental music. What I will say about songs without words is that it must not be music for music’s sake; music just for the sake of music being made as an addition to the music that already exists; it shouldn’t be music for filling the void in any given environment, meaning music made to chase away the silence, music to distract one from ponder important questions of life and death; it shouldn’t be noise to drown out the silence in any given place; it also shouldn’t be music made for the promotion of self in the eyes of others, seeking praise or approval of others through the making of music; it shouldn’t made for one’s own glory or for the inflating of their ego, or for the occasion to belittle others or insult their music-making abilities.
Instrumental music should be made most importantly for the glory of God, even though it contains no words, in still has the potential to affect people in positive ways if it is done right, if it’s made for the right reasons, if it’s made for the glory of God first and the benefit of others second. While some may underestimate the power of instrumental music, we must not, for it can be a potent, powerful tool in the hands of a devoted and God-fearing individual, and it can bring benefits that another would not be able to for the other may be making the music for reasons I mentioned above, essentially misusing the tool that is music for their own ends and glory.
Instrumental music can be used to help those who’ve much to think about, inspire them, lead them to ponder important things, help them study, help to to appreciate music as a gift God has given mankind, lead them to praise God, inspire them to also make music, and it can do other things. So, instrumental music is a powerful thing, a good thing in the right hands, a gift to share, it is not worse than music with lyrics but it cannot share the truth like music with words can.

Conclusion
It could be said that that’s what’s lacking in the modern music world, even Christian music world, a lack of more truth-packed, biblically correct, theologically sound songs. This can be changed if more people realized how potent music can be, how useful it can be as a tool to spread the truth and share the undiluted Gospel with the world in need of the truth, in need of Christ the Savior, in need of God.
Let us venture to speak the truth to all through whatever media we have at our disposal, whatever is our area of expertise, whatever talent(s) that we have, doing it for the benefit of others but primarily to the glory of God.

I am well aware that someone or other may disagree with something or everything I have written here; that will not make me think I should remove the note or that I should change my mind as soon as someone tells me something that differs from what I have written. If you will consider all I have written to be merely my opinions, so be it; if there are only some or a few things you agree with, great; if you disagree with all I wrote because of what you believe, so be it. I do not and cannot expect all who read this to agree with everything I wrote. If you are offended by something I have written in here, say it. I won’t change what I think just because someone disagrees with it or because it offends someone somehow; my beliefs don’t need to conform to other people’s but rather to the Word of God; I must disagree with others when what they say is not what the Bible says; I must conform to God’s ways and words, not to others’ or even my own if they aren’t what they’re supposed to be. I’m not perfect and neither are you, reader, we all think differently, we can’t all be right, but if we don’t agree with God’s Word then we’re all wrong. I have much to learn, as do you, so let us learn together as we live and live as we ought to, not conforming to the standards of the world but to the standards of God for therein lies our good and light for the path we walk in life.

This post was not to promote some band over another but to simply show that there are great songs one can listen to which have lyrical substance, presenting biblical truth accompanied by vocals and music. It is but one band that chooses to share the truth through the medium of song; there are plenty others out there, one just has to look to find.
A simple google search result for the band’s album, then follow the youtube link to listen to the songs:

“Thinking and Doing” by me.

— This was originally just a comment but I think sharing it here (almost unchanged) can be beneficial to those who read it, if they see the point and do what’s suggested and what I’m encouraging the reader to do. —

Thinking on something is good but once you’ve thought on it for some time, you must act on it, don’t stop with the thinking, go on to the doing, that is, see and seek practical ways of applying what you have thought on.
We’re not just called to think on things, useful as that is, we must move beyond that to the point where we take practical and biblical steps in our lives and really do what we have overlooked, neglected, ignored, trivialized, which of course won’t be easy, no really important things in life are easy, but they’re worth doing and they must be done.
We’re called to obey God’s Word, His commands, out of our love for Him and because those very commands are given by the Omniscient, Omnipotent, Omnipresent true and living God, they’re not some silly suggestions of the world, they’re the commands of the Almighty One, our Heavenly Father who knows what’s best for all of His children.
It’s not the wisdom of the world we’re here to acquire and apply, it’s the wisdom of God’s Word, which is more lucid and logical than the world’s wisdom, for it comes from the mind of God and not the imagination of man.
Thinking is good, but it’s not an end, it’s a means to an end, which is doing. Abiding in Christ we will bear fruit in our lives and we will be seen as those set apart for God, in His family and of His Kingdom. If we have His light in us, we must not hide it, it must shine so the world sees. Yes, we won’t fit, but that’s not a bad thing, for to be more like Christ is more important than any of the opinions the world has of us.
Obedience to God, no matter how difficult, is more important than the opinions of you held by any people of the world.
Hopefully this helps someone who reads this who may have stopped at the thinking stage and hasn’t moved to the doing stage yet. By God’s help, they can and will if they seek to obey God’s commands, to do God’s will.
