What in anything is worth anything?
What in life is worth the pain?
What’s worth losing to something gain?
What’s it all for if all goes to nothing?
Shine bright, dream, before vanishing;
Pray true, heart, for some hopeful time;
Fail fast, body, from this famishing;
Hang low, hands that worked the crime.
Above the soft white swims by,
Below the hard hears a goodbye
Uttered by dying lips, last dance,
Burns now away change’s chance.
Little lasts my strength for need,
Fallow lies the ground for seed,
Burns slow another part of given thread,
Stagnates the water and molds the bread.
Ends the dream of happy days,
Fades the hope of comfortable life,
Strife’s filled many yesterdays,
Comfort dies at the hands of strife.
Never forget it nor its value diminish,
What is worth most, treasure, cherish,
Until last breath, yes, until life’s finish,
Ever in salvation through Christ relish.
Sight to see the given good is imperfect, truth I say,
Damage see like the sun in the sky on a cloudless day.
