“Our Knowledge of and Obedience to God” Note by me.

–Originally a comment, shared here for others to read and hopefully benefit from–

However God measures or judges, it’s always done perfectly and it’s always done right because He’s perfect.
This fact and truth can be hard for us to truly believe and grasp because we’re not perfect and we can’t imagine what a perfect being (God) is and how they think and act and how this Being can be sinless and never make mistakes in thoughts or plans and actions.

The closest acquaintance and sufficient image, a real being picture, of God’s perfection that we humans can get while we’re in these present bodies and we have all our imperfections, is Jesus Christ. He’s the image of the invisible God; He’s the clearest revelation of God to people that there is.

In Christ we get the best picture of God’s nature, no longer seeing Him as through glass but as clear as God saw fit to reveal Himself to us imperfect people whose reason and understanding isn’t perfect no matter how intelligent or devoted or zealous we are for God and knowing and loving Him.
This doesn’t mean we shouldn’t strive to know God more and more because we’re imperfect and our knowledge of God will never be full or complete while we live, while we’re in these present bodies. It means the opposite of that: it means that because of our imperfections, flaws, lacks, we must pursue the knowledge and the love of God all the more because it’s so vital, we all need it, we’re all called and invited to get the know more and more about God but also to know God more and more and to keep doing this continually until the day we die. Although we won’t reach here that goal of knowing and loving God completely, we’re encouraged, called, and instructed, to pursue obtaining as much of the knowledge of God but never at the expense of obeying God and loving.
We don’t really know God if we’re intentionally slacking in our pursuit of obeying and loving God. If we’re making excuses to keep from pursuing gaining more knowledge of God, we’re being disobedient to God’s call in Christ to do that.

We must all strive to grow our desire for the knowledge of God and just as or more important, to grow in our love for and obedience to God.
Never stop learning more and more about God. Never stop in your growth in love and obedience to God.

“The Old in the New”

1/5/16
Written by: Victor P.

“The Old in the New”

We bring the old into the new,
It is another year but we remain the same;
Changes with the new are in few,
Another fear to fight, new deeds of shame.

Changes are not easy to make;
Trying has a chance of failure.
How much more can we take?
O, what is for our ills the cure?

Our resolutions aren’t promises
But hollow inside and superficial outside,
And giving in to compromises
Is a step from the right to the wrong side.

Make no mention
Of your intention
Of habit’s retention;
You want attention.

Deprivation and waste,
Elimination and haste,
Repentance and relapse,
Hypocrisy and collapse.

Repeating the same mistakes,
Repeating the same old sins,
Sitting on the same old pins
And playing the same fakes.

We’ll point our fingers at anyone
As long as it’s not at ourselves;
But we must when we are won
Go take mirrors off the shelves.

We severed ties we’ve long had
And broke the bonds of love.
What’s it brought us is very sad;
None would envy it to have.

We say as we look back on our past
‘We did not know what wouldn’t last’
But maybe we just didn’t care enough to find out
And now we fear the future, are full of new doubt.

We burn the days if we tread carelessly
And we’ll believe that we are helplessly
Left on our own, left to fight, left to die,
But that is not true, it is false, it is a lie!

What’s it brought us, all our trying?
More failures, and tears for drying?
Experience can be a cruel teacher
And foolishness is a great reacher.

If life is hard and thus must be
Then is there a light we can see
To show the way that we all should go?
Answers to life’s questions can we know?

We are like a broken record
Playing the same old song;
O, but can any of us afford
To keep this all up for long?

Are we chasing dreams
That quickly fade away?
O, whose heart screams
That there’s another way?

What’s it all for if all goes to nothing?
Can we win, gain or receive anything?
There must be more and there must be something
More than all there is, more than our everything!

Is the darkness surrounding us all we’ll see?
Shall the light come or are we all left to be
Casualties who fought a futile war?
Is this what our life was made for?

Are we to look to the future with hope and expectation?
With fear and doubt? With excitement and determination?
What’s done is done and what’s gone is gone
But there’s still much that can be by us won!

Look back and reflect, see this life’s not for us to waste;
Look forward and sift through the past and come taste
The harvest of the present and sow the seeds for the future
You wish to see and wait, tend, care, a future harvest is sure.

“Freedom in Christ” note by me.

“Freedom in Christ” note by me.

-Note: originally just a comment, shared here for others’ benefit-

John 8:32, 36
“32) And you shall know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”
“36) If the Son therefore will make you free, you will be free indeed.”

True freedom is found in the Son of God who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

There are plenty of counterfeit freedoms out there but all are insufficient and temporary, while freedom in Christ is the only sufficient and lasting freedom, the kind of freedom every person needs, whether they believe or realize that or not.

There are obvious implications and simple and logical conclusions we can draw from the verses quoted above.
If we don’t know the truth, then we’re not free. If we don’t or won’t want to know the truth, then we don’t want to be free, and the fault is our own, we’ve no one to blame but ourselves. You must know the truth to be made free by it.
If we’re not made free by the Son, then we’re still slaves to sin, to lies, and we must come to the Son of God to be made free by Him, in Him, through Him. The Son makes free indeed, for real, truly, in the only significant, meaningful sense of the word, and this freeing is something we all need but can’t and won’t get outside of the Son of God, that is, there’s no substitute for Christ, there’s no other viable or real option for us if we want to be made free.

Christ alone can set free all who are slaves to sin. To know true freedom, the spiritual that affects all other areas of life, one must surrender to and know and love Christ. Surrender to Christ is the beginning of truly living.
There’s no way around it.

“God’s Calling Us To Life”

“God’s Calling Us To Life”

Another day and another battle,
Another loss and another failure,
Just more failed expectations,
More disappointments to accept.

Silence isn’t comforting,
Misery wants company,
Tears want shoulders,
Pain wants expression.

The weight seems too heavy,
The trying seems futile now,
The tears come in private,
The heart is restless daily.

What’s the point of all of this?
What is life without joy and love?
What’s awaiting on the horizon?
Just what’s beyond the grave?

We’re asking questions
And looking for answers;
We’re all fighting battles,
We’re all looking for love.

God’s calling us to true life,
To more than mere existence,
Nobody’s being excluded or rejected,
We just need to open our ears and hearts.

The more we fall for distractions and noise
The less likely we are to hear God speak,
We all need to focus our attention,
The Word of life is what we all need.

Come to the Lord just as you are,
He wants to forgive your sins,
He wants to save you, give you new life,
You can be reconciled to God through Christ.

Life is more than we can imagine,
Life’s purpose greater than we assume,
God’s love is an ocean of wonders,
God’s holiness amazing and pure.

“Don’t Be Stiff, Man” (satire)

“Don’t Be Stiff, Man” (satire)

Don’t be stiff, man, loosen up,
Fill your blissful ignorance’s cup,
Don’t be cold, better to be lukewarm,
In the middle’s all right and no harm.

Don’t reprove, that’s just mean,
Don’t rebuke, that’s just obscene,
Just don’t say there’s objective truth,
It’s all subjective, we don’t need proof.

Some things Jesus didn’t know, man,
But we’re smarter than He was then,
We’re modern and progressive, see,
What we are now is what we will be.

Some things Jesus couldn’t have said,
They were added after he was dead,
You just need to be nice to people, man,
And be the very best you that you can.

“The Fading and Renewing”

“The Fading and Renewing”

Light fades with the setting of the sun,
Hope fades while the battle’s not won,
Much love fades on the liar’s face,
Time passes with a flying pace.

“Strengthen the tired heart, dear Lord,
The battle has gone on for so long.
Renew the spirit, give a new song,
The soul won’t wither with the world.”

The fading of all that is prone to fade
Surely will come in its appointed time
But hope in God your heart won’t evade
And God can forgive our every crime.

It’s true, false remedies won’t alleviate the pain,
False cures won’t avail those suffering,
Hope won’t grow from a liar’s offering
And all the enemy’s efforts are ultimately in vain.
