“A Darker View; A Living Hope”

Just look around you,
See what’s happening
So near and so far away
On this planet even now.

Who can say that there’s nothing wrong?
Who’d dare deny there’s death and pain?
Who’d say it’s all meaningless in the end?
Who says there’s nothing left to live for?

Don’t tell me everything’s okay
Because I know that it’s not.
Don’t spout another cliché,
Who’s not sick of them yet?

I’m not here to spread pessimism
But to call to see things realistically,
To stop pretending everything’s all right
Because the bloodshed says otherwise.

We can’t just sing through it,
We can’t outlast it by idleness,
If we’re to live to see another year
God help us or we’re as good as dead.

This is the world as it is
And you still say
We don’t need a Savior,
You just don’t know
How wrong you are.
Do you really believe
The words you’re saying
Or do you just want a way out,
An excuse, a cheap avoidance, evasion,
To keep yourself from accepting
The truth that’s staring all in the face?

Things look quite dark,
The future so uncertain,
Every day could be our last
So what are we living for?
What are we dying for?

There are so many existing
Like life’s a game to play,
Carelessness and recklessness
Rules in the hedonistic hearts,
Love grows cold but lust burns,
Pleasure’s sought at others’ expense,
Godliness and holiness rejected,
Neglected, overlooked, ignored,
Like nothing matters more
Than feeling good right now,
Getting what the flesh wants,
Wanting what desire burns for,
Coveting without stopping;
Selfishness is consuming lives.

Lost souls seek to numb the pain
Without positive results, only failure,
Nothing of the world can fill the void,
It accumulates, pollutes and corrupts
And pretty soon the rot within sickens,
The emptiness remains, the misery grows.

There’s no hope and no salvation
If you’re looking for it in the world,
The world system hostile to all that’s of God,
It can’t save your miserable and lost soul,
Know that it can’t deliver you from Hell
And if you look to yourself for salvation
You’ll be severely disappointed soon enough,
You’ll find out, God help you, you can’t save yourself.

I’m not here to pat heads and spout clichés,
I’m not interested in tickling eager ears,
I’m not interested in scratching itching ears,
I’m not in the business of parroting platitudes,
I’m not here to play pretend that everything’s okay.

Say what you will and think worse if you want
But my mind’s made up, my purpose remains
To shine the light of hope to a dark world,
To always point back to Christ as the only answer.

Christ is the only hope of this dying world,
Christ is the only Savior of sinners,
Christ is the One who died for the ungodly,
He’s the only way to God the Father,
He’s the Way and the Truth and the Life,
He died to set the slaves free,
To change miserable and lost lives,
To renovate hearts, to change them from stone to flesh,
To bring life where there’s death and misery,
He’s the only one worthy of glory, wholehearted commitment,
All other gods can burn in Hell’s flames forevermore,
God knows they will, all false gods will be destroyed!

So look around and see the dark clouds
But don’t fix your eyes on the present
So much that you’re just standing still
Too afraid to do anything else, really.
Look up and see the sun peeking
Through the clouds, it’s a reminder
God’s still in control, it’s not hopeless,
No matter how bad things may get,
No matter how dark things may seem
Fix your eyes on Jesus, healthy or ill
And know that He has overcome the world,
There’s nothing that can ever stop Him,
He will not fail, He will not lose control,
Nothing can separate His chidren from His love.

If you’re still looking within for salvation,
If you’re still looking within for all the answers,
I promise you you’ll fail in your endeavor
Because it’s a futile one, a waste of time,
You can never save yourself, be sure of that,
You won’t find all the answers to your questions
Looking within your finite mind, that’s a guarantee.

You may think the world doesn’t need a Savior
And much less do you think you need one
But you couldn’t be more wrong
And though you may feel so sure now
That my kind and I are the ones wrong
Time will not agree with your belief,
Truth will not die and fade into the past,
You will see in time that you’ve been wrong
If you don’t persist in your proud stand,
If you don’t continue living in denial
Of the truth that corresponds to reality,
I pray to God you’ll believe one day,
Better sooner than later but I don’t decide,
Your life from first to last breath is in God’s hands,
Realize He’s in control; may you never forget it.

“On Music and Truth.” by me.

“On Music and Truth” by me.
Written 2/24/16.

A Suggestion
If you are looking for some music that is lyrically good, with content, with substance, theologically sound, I have a suggestion. It’s a band called Minor, and they released an album this year; the songs can be heard online, fastest way to find them is to go to YouTube, or follow the link I provide here. Give the songs a listen, I hope you shall find something to like, to be inspired by, provoked to thought, to ponder the great theme of salvation through faith in Christ by the grace of God.
While I would personally prefer more vocal variation in an album, it does not make the songs or album worse in any way, for the main thing is the lyrical content, the truth that’s present, the message that is shared with all who will hear the songs or read the lyrics online. At the end of the post is a link to the band’s songs.
Songs With Words(Lyrics)
Speaking of the importance of the lyrical content in any song I do not want anyone reading this to get the idea that I am against instrumental music, songs without words; no, I am not against them, and I’m not saying that since I consider lyrical content/ substance of a song to be the most important part of a song, that means I consider songs without words to be of little or no value to people;
no, I don’t want people to get that idea, what I am saying is that in songs with words/lyrics the part that should be given primary place/focus is words/lyrics, for no matter how good it sounds musically if it’s deficient in lyrical quality or content it is deficient in the most important part, and whatever enjoyment listeners may get from it they’ll not get the benefit of hearing quality lyrics, by which I mean lyrics full of truth; lyrics that conform to theological and biblical standards, virtues, values, etc.; lyrics that aren’t about just making someone feel good about themselves but lyrics that call for action to be taken by the listener; lyrics that provoke the listener to move, to change, instead of remaining complacent or being content with the way things are in one’s life be they so bad or spiritually unhealthy or so-so; lyrics that shift one’s focus from the temporary and fleeting to the eternal and everlasting; lyrics that point one to love, to truth, to Christ, to God.

Instrumental music (songs without words)
In this post I was speaking of songs with words, therefore no implication was made about the worth or usefulness or lack thereof of instrumental music. What I will say about songs without words is that it must not be music for music’s sake; music just for the sake of music being made as an addition to the music that already exists; it shouldn’t be music for filling the void in any given environment, meaning music made to chase away the silence, music to distract one from ponder important questions of life and death; it shouldn’t be noise to drown out the silence in any given place; it also shouldn’t be music made for the promotion of self in the eyes of others, seeking praise or approval of others through the making of music; it shouldn’t made for one’s own glory or for the inflating of their ego, or for the occasion to belittle others or insult their music-making abilities.
Instrumental music should be made most importantly for the glory of God, even though it contains no words, in still has the potential to affect people in positive ways if it is done right, if it’s made for the right reasons, if it’s made for the glory of God first and the benefit of others second. While some may underestimate the power of instrumental music, we must not, for it can be a potent, powerful tool in the hands of a devoted and God-fearing individual, and it can bring benefits that another would not be able to for the other may be making the music for reasons I mentioned above, essentially misusing the tool that is music for their own ends and glory.
Instrumental music can be used to help those who’ve much to think about, inspire them, lead them to ponder important things, help them study, help to to appreciate music as a gift God has given mankind, lead them to praise God, inspire them to also make music, and it can do other things. So, instrumental music is a powerful thing, a good thing in the right hands, a gift to share, it is not worse than music with lyrics but it cannot share the truth like music with words can.

Conclusion
It could be said that that’s what’s lacking in the modern music world, even Christian music world, a lack of more truth-packed, biblically correct, theologically sound songs. This can be changed if more people realized how potent music can be, how useful it can be as a tool to spread the truth and share the undiluted Gospel with the world in need of the truth, in need of Christ the Savior, in need of God.
Let us venture to speak the truth to all through whatever media we have at our disposal, whatever is our area of expertise, whatever talent(s) that we have, doing it for the benefit of others but primarily to the glory of God.

I am well aware that someone or other may disagree with something or everything I have written here; that will not make me think I should remove the note or that I should change my mind as soon as someone tells me something that differs from what I have written. If you will consider all I have written to be merely my opinions, so be it; if there are only some or a few things you agree with, great; if you disagree with all I wrote because of what you believe, so be it. I do not and cannot expect all who read this to agree with everything I wrote. If you are offended by something I have written in here, say it. I won’t change what I think just because someone disagrees with it or because it offends someone somehow; my beliefs don’t need to conform to other people’s but rather to the Word of God; I must disagree with others when what they say is not what the Bible says; I must conform to God’s ways and words, not to others’ or even my own if they aren’t what they’re supposed to be. I’m not perfect and neither are you, reader, we all think differently, we can’t all be right, but if we don’t agree with God’s Word then we’re all wrong. I have much to learn, as do you, so let us learn together as we live and live as we ought to, not conforming to the standards of the world but to the standards of God for therein lies our good and light for the path we walk in life.

This post was not to promote some band over another but to simply show that there are great songs one can listen to which have lyrical substance, presenting biblical truth accompanied by vocals and music. It is but one band that chooses to share the truth through the medium of song; there are plenty others out there, one just has to look to find.
A simple google search result for the band’s album, then follow the youtube link to listen to the songs:

“Do Not Look Away”

8/25/16
Written by: Victor P.

“Do Not Look Away”

Do not look away
And do not sway
To evil influence
Or false pretense.

We’re dreaming our dreams
And can’t hear the screams,
The suffering still cry,
Their tears who’ll dry?

The eyes that look away
Say what lips won’t say:
Some are too greedy to share
And some too busy to care.

Oh, it’s easy to see
We’re all too busy,
Just too busy to love,
Give of what we have.

We wake up and we see the world,
It seems things are cold and whirled,
Things are not as they could be,
Things could be better, you see.

We’re all prone to doubt,
To wandering further out,
We are falling faster still,
We’re running farther still.

Do not look away,
Avoid the evil way,
Stand your ground,
Hear truth’s sound.

Trying to fill empty hearts
And put back together parts
Broken by words and deeds;
Oh, this is where it all leads.

Honestly, oh, honestly, it’s a sad life
If it consists of emptiness and strife.
Fight it now and rise above,
Life is not life without love!

Who wants things to be this way?
Who doesn’t want it to go away –
All the strife and the wars and the pain?
We must do what we can, it’s not in vain!

Don’t go that way,
Do not look away,
Stop and turn around,
Follow the true sound.

“Man can’t judge God” note by me.

“Man can’t judge God” note by me.

–Note: Originally posted as a comment on someone’s post on a social media site. I think it’s worth sharing here, too. —

While man’s alive he thinks he has God in the dock and he’s feeling good about himself, he’s “a good person,” after all, so he thinks he has the right to question and judge God permitting this or that thing he believes shouldn’t be permitted by God, or at least the kind of god he’d feel comfortable believing in, which is not
coincidentally, very much like the man himself in so many ways, so it’s obvious why the man’d prefer to follow such a god, for it’s a god of his own making, one
that conforms to the man’s preferences, exists for the benefit of man, seeks the approval of man lest man become angry with that god and stop following him,
which’d be the end of that god, so that god’s always looking for ways to bless the man and keep him mellow and satisfied lest the man’s anger be kindled and the
flame of man’s wrath burns the god to ash.
Of course, the reality is that there’s no such god in existence; such a push-around god is a counterfeit, a fake, a thing unworthy, a thing imagined in the factory of
idolatry, the man’s mind, and though the may be ever so sincere that that’s the god he believes exists, such a god exists nowhere outside the man’s imagination, it’s just another counterfeit the devil sold to the man who doesn’t want to believe in an All-powerful, most holy God, the One who will judge the world in
righteousness. God’s not a grandpa god who seeks to keep all the people happy by permitting them to do whatever they wish and he’ll forgive them because “no
one’s perfect, everyone makes mistakes.”
Such a sin-tolerating, over-permissive god’s not one people should embrace, much less worship, the very idea of such a god should be spewed from our minds and
replaced by the truth of the true God as He revealed Himself in His Word, not as some man or woman conceived in their imagination.
If we feel qualified to judge God now because we disagree with Him doing this or that or not doing this or that, for permitting certain things, for not giving us such
or such, I guarantee that not one of us will do so when we die and stand before Him, the real Him, and not any conception of Him that the devil has sold billions of
people and they gladly embrace.

“Of Fear and Courage” by me.

“Of Fear and Courage” by me.

–Note: this was orginally just a comment I made on a post by someone talking about the present-day lack of courage displayed by people, and I thought to share it here, too.–

Part of the reason could be a lack of role models, models of courage, examples worth following, people who live what they preach or believe, people who know
what real courage and how to exhibit it.
Another reason is that it just seems to cost too much to be courageous, too much at stake, too much to lose; easier to keep mouth shut and feet planted than to risk
what you own. Fear of loss of material possessions, job, house, status, and the like, keeps many people from showing courage at a time when it should be shown.
It’s much easier to sit down than stand up; much easier to remain idle than active.
It’s much easier to keep quiet and not be criticized or punished for speaking out or against something than to speak up against what’s wrong or foolish.
I haven’t lived that long but I’ve seen what fear can do in a life, my own included, and in the lives of those who should’ve shown examples of courage but didn’t.
Disappointment with self and others is pretty much guaranteed part of life since we’re all imperfect (yet that shouldn’t be used as an excuse) but it’s not something
that need be a frequent as it is.
If we are struggling to find any obvious examples of courage in the present, then looking to the past for shining examples of courage is a reasonable course of action and will avail us, I am sure, for the past is full of more than the present and stark examples of courage may be found, read about, without much difficulty. If we seek, we shall find. If we look at the examples of courage from the past, it will encourage us and give us help and insight into to matter of courage applied in our own life.
Just my thoughts on the matter.

“Against Drinking Alcohol” by me.

“Against Drinking Alcohol” by me.

–Note: Originally posted as a long comment reply to someone–

One thing you should do right away is stop drinking any alcohol at all. It’s not going to help you with anything; it won’t help you get through anything; it’s only
going to add to the problems you have.
Alcohol is not an answer to anything; it’s just another problem people add to their list of problems; the consequences can’t be avoided and you can’t plead ignorance
later if tragedy is a result from your use of it. If you willingly and deliberately drink alcohol, you can’t blame anyone else for anything negative that happens to as a result, maybe not today or tomorrow but eventually.
The best approach to take with alcohol is to avoid it, don’t drink it, don’t let it into your life, it’s a problem, a snare, a drug, a gate to addiction. You’ll always be
better off without it.
You can make all the excuses and justifications you want but it won’t change facts about alcohol or the reality. You can pretend it’s not a problem, not a big deal,
that you can handle it, that others are doing it so it’s ok, but that’s pride and deception talking, not the Holy Spirit or even common sense.
What harms our bodies and minds is something to avoid and fight, not something to swim in, drown in, wallow in.
Our bodies are to be the temple of the Holy Spirit, not garbage receptacles or tools we use for getting our own pleasures, feeding our desires of a moment. Alcohol,
tobacco, drugs, are things Christians must fight and avoid, and using grace as license or excuse to do what you want isn’t ok for anyone, it’s wrong and shouldn’t be done.
Alcohol use has destroyed too many lives already; don’t let yourself be added to the list of those who have fallen into its trap. It’s just another tool the Devil uses to
bring people into dependence, addiction, it’s another way he tries to destroy people.
You can read this and ignore it, pretend you never read it and go on doing what you’ve been doing, drinking or something worse, but God wants what’s best for you, and alcohol is not part of that, I guarantee you.
You can think about what I’ve written and maybe you’ll ponder it for a minute or so and then soon enough forget it and resume your actions of the day. That won’t
help you.
I won’t condone your choice to drink alcohol, and I’ll just say that if you struggle with depression or other problems, the last thing you should be doing is drinking
alcohol, it shouldn’t even be on your list of things to do.
You should, as we all should, examine your actions, see what shouldn’t be, what you shouldn’t be doing, what you shouldn’t be saying, and then do something about it, don’t just stop at finding what needs to change, take the steps to bring the change that needs to come, do what must be done. Remove from your life the things that pollute your body and mind, and right action by action will bring positive results that you need and surely desire.
All things must be done with repentance, prayer, and faith, all done and exercised, in sincerity, coming to God for help, strength, for joy, for the will to will and the will to do. You will receive from the heavenly Father what is necessary and good in His time. He will do what it right and will change your life for the better, even if things don’t become easier and even if difficulties don’t decrease, God will be with you and He won’t leave you to fight the battles alone, He’ll fight them for you, He’ll be your hope and strength. Hope and trust in Him, He will bring about the good in your life He wills and desires you to have.
