The easy sayings of the Bible are, of course, easy to feed upon, but it is necessary to feed upon the whole Word, not the part that we’ve grown to like because it makes us feel happy and comfortable. Sometimes we’ll need some foodthat will make us uncomfortable but necessarily so, for in order to grow we must eat the meat of the Word eventually and not stay content with only the milk of the Word. It is a necessary part of Christian spiritual growth to feed upon the whole Word of God if we hope to know more and of course apply more. We can’t live our whole Christian life remaining in the stage where we only drink the milk of the Word, we stunt our growth, we remain spiritually immature, and that must not be because the Christian life is a growth process, growing to be more like Christ, with each new day and week and month and year, not remaining at the same level for years. God tells us to grow, mature, not remain spiritual infants. Let’s all make it our priority to grow spiritually, aided of course by the power of the Holy Spirit every step of the way.
